Whether he was the Macaque King (who is actually female/ Female Monkey King, as “king” in Chinese is gender neutral), one of Macaque King’s subordinates (that Macaque King got to show off to Wukong) one of the Stalwart Generals- specifically Marshal Liu (Liu short for “Liu’er Mihou” and is my personal headcanon for him- I’ll explain in another post why), or simply the Six-Eared Macaque that was able to meet the Monkey King before they became enemies (As in the 2009 animated series) is irrelevant atm. Someone he could stand alongside with and not fear he was being tricked by or was inadequate to. He had a friend, a companion, a precious partner. This was the highest point of Macaque’s whole existence. In this moment, Macaque and Wukong were no longer alone.įrom that moment on, the two were inseparable. They were like one another: formed unknowingly with great power, different even from other monkeys and demons. That sentence changed everything, and Macaque realized he was right just by being in his presence as two of the four Celestial Primates came into contact. He didn’t expect to be discovered, captured and brought to the Monkey King himself… or for said Monkey King’s reaction to him. So Macaque disguised himself and infiltrated Flower Fruit Mountain, ready to kill Wukong and take his place. Macaque would no longer be scraping the bottom of the barrel. He hatched a plan: kill this Monkey King and take his place, along with all that he possessed. Macaque felt bitter jealousy towards him immediately: how dare this Monkey King have so much when Macaque had to fight tooth and nail for what little he had? This is where his superiority-inferiority complex and abandonment issues were birthed.Īt some point Macaque heard of the Monkey King, of his power and army. Even demons who allowed him close found him wanting, and Macaque put on a mask of power and arrogance just as they did. He was witnessed by humans, who feared and shunned him for both his appearance and powers. Macaque was born far from anyone even remotely resembling him. Macaque’s Past (This is the theoretical/headcanon part now) Though he was of stone and clearly different in power, Wukong had love, family and a home. Wukong’s stone of birth was situated in an area where food and water were plenty and there were other monkeys that taught him how to be a monkey. Meaning all four are pretty special, for better or worse. None of these four are classified within the ten categories of life or contained within the names of either Heaven or Earth. Six-Eared Macaque is the one the Celestial Primates/ Four Monkeys of Havoc, alongside Wukong (The Intelligent Stone Monkey), Mahou (The Red-Buttocked Horse Monkey) and Yuanhou (The Long-Armed Tongbi Gibbon). TLDR: My theory-crafting/headcanons on Macaque, his past and what his fucking deal is. Lego Monkie Kid: What is Macaque’s Damage?
